Mission: Ending the Wild Horse Round-ups

America’s wild horses and burros are symbols of freedom, resilience, and our Western heritage. In 1971, President Richard Nixon signed the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, designating federal lands for the preservation of these animals. The law was meant to protect them from capture, harassment, and slaughter.

But that isn’t what happened…

Fast forward to today, and that promise has been broken. Wild horses are being chased down by helicopters in brutal roundups, ripped from their families, and forced into holding facilities where many suffer, get sick, and die. Others end up at auction, where they fall into the slaughter pipeline or worse–end up as meat sold for food.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) spends hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars each year to warehouse these horses in captivity instead of allowing them to live freely on the land that was set aside for them. Meanwhile, career politicians like Dina Titus have looked the other way, kicking the can down the road every election cycle.

I won’t let that happen.  I’ll fight to protect this precious symbol of American Freedom.

WHY IT MUST END

Over 50% of America's wild horses and burros live in nevada

These roundups are not only cruel, they are wasteful and unsustainable. The system is broken:

  • Inhumane practices: Helicopter chases traumatize, injure, and kill horses.
  • Waste of taxpayer money: We are spending hundreds of millions annually to confine wild horses when there is a better, more cost-effective way.
  • Broken promises: Federal law was clear, wild horses belong to the American people, not auction blocks or foreign slaughterhouses.
  • Political failure: For years, politicians have ignored the issue, choosing special interests over what’s right.

my solutions

As your Congressman, ending the wild horse and burro roundups will be one of the top items on my agenda. This is about compassion, fiscal responsibility, and keeping our government accountable.  We want to bring this issue to President Trump’s attention and fulfill the promise we made to our wild horses and burros 55 years ago.

Over 50% of America's wild horses and burros live in nevada

Here’s how we fix it:

  1. End the Roundups: Halt helicopter roundups and stop funneling horses into holding facilities or auctions.
  2. Return Horses to the Wild: Reintroduce horses and burros to their designated lands where they legally belong.
  3. Herd Management Solutions: Work with experts, ranchers, and advocates to implement responsible herd management practices that protect horses and respect ranching interests.
  4. Cut Costs & Save Taxpayer Money: Replace costly confinement programs with humane, natural management that saves taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
  5. Build Coalitions for Change: Partner with leaders, advocates, and public voices, such as actress and horse rescue owner Dawn Olivieri, who has already joined me in this fight, to bring national attention and action to the issue.

MY PERSONAL COMMITMENT TO YOU

I’ve spoken about this issue for years, but now I’m in a position to take action. This isn’t a talking point, it’s a mission. I will stand up where others have looked away or failed to take action. Together, we can protect America’s wild horses and burros, honor the promise of the 1971 law, and ensure that future generations inherit a land where freedom still runs wild.

But I need your help.  I can’t do this alone.  We can win this battle.  Support our campaign now!

Meet Dawn Olivieri

Celebrated actress by trade, and a lifelong animal lover and rescuer, Dawn Olivieri is at the helm of Moon Mountain Sanctuary and Rescue. From the sets of 1883 and Yellowstone to the Ouachita Forrest Boundary in Arkansas, this real-life rancher has devoted her heart and land to helping kill pen horses find their way to a new life.

She supports Bobby Khan for Congress because she knows Bobby will take action to MAKE HORSES FREE AGAIN.

Dawn's mission is to provide land, shelter, food, care, and love to any rescue animal who needs and deserves a second chance.

Moon Mountain Sanctuary has been a journey of the heart for actress Dawn Olivieri who has over a decade of experience taking in the wounded and meek.

Good food and strong loving presence builds the body and instills a confidence that any animal can use to find their way back to a solid center. This is always my wish with any life that comes my way.

In August of 2023 two groups of wild reservation herds made up of mothers and mismatched foals were crowd funded and rescued out of three different kill pens across the country by Dawn Olivieri and her social media following. Reaching a count of 50 horses in under a month, Dawn and her newly formed Army have managed to get the whole group fed and cared for, bringing some back from the brink of death, with the intent of finding forever homes for every last one of them.
